Description

This is not the Canyon Cycles that you typically see on the market these days. Back in the early aughts, Canyon Custom Cycles was started by Robby Rupe and Rich Carolan, hand-building custom frames from aluminum and steel in the San Fernando Valley. Robby built this one personally, and if you recognize his name, it’s because he is a BMX Hall-of-Famer, and after that, he went on to weld frames for Yeti. Remember those gorgeous dime-sized fish scale welds you’d see on all the old Yeti ARC frames - Robby did that. One of his ventures after leaving Yeti was Canyon Custom Cycles. This frame is built of Easton Sc7000 Scandium tubes, which are a significant leap ahead in material technology. The result is one of the lightest frames made with a ride quality that is stiff and efficient but without the harsh edge, characteristic of so many aluminum frames on the market. The welds and paint job are immaculate. The aluminum “Breeze-In” dropouts are a rarity; they add style and lateral stiffness to the rear triangle. The top tube and the seat tube are also externally butted for greater stiffness at the headtube and the bottom bracket. This frame has 135mm rear spacing - for a quick-release axle. It’s designed around 26-inch wheels, but I’m pretty sure 650b with gravel tires would also fit, maybe even 700c with smaller tires - but your results may vary so experiment with that at your own risk. It’s set up for disc brakes and a standard mountain bike thread-in bottom bracket. Race Face sealed cartridge bearing headset included is compatible with a 1 1/8" diameter fork steer tube.
